Answering the Most Asked Question: What is Sole? Do These Products Really Contain Shoe Sole?

If you have a keen eye on our products, you may have noticed this common ingredient in two of our hair care lines. Now, let’s explain its benefits and a bit of Dominican history.

First, let’s start with some ancestral history. Many years ago, in the southern region of the country, people used to make an infusion from leather soles (better known as shoe soles) and apply it to their hair, claiming it helped with hair growth.

Later, during that same period, the founder of our company, Mrs. Josefina Pujols, decided to investigate the reasoning behind this practice, as it was very common at the time.

Finally, the results showed that the infusion is rich in tannins, which are highly beneficial for strengthening hair and preventing hair loss. In our hair care formulations, tannins help regulate scalp oiliness—meaning excess grease—while also improving overall hair appearance.

Does Capilo Really Collect and Recycle Used Shoe Soles?

Yes and no. We obtain the remnants of these soles’ insoles—of course, completely unused and clean. Once they arrive at our laboratory, they undergo a second thorough cleaning before being processed into an infusion with active ingredients to enhance their effects.

Additional Benefits of Sole Extract for Hair

This traditional remedy, used in some cultures, has been praised for its multiple hair benefits. The most notable include:

  • Strengthens Hair and Stimulates Growth: Regular use of the infusion improves scalp blood circulation and provides essential nutrients to the follicles, promoting healthy hair growth.
  • Shine and Softness: This natural remedy enhances hair appearance, leaving it shinier and smoother.
  • Hydration and Nourishment: Its moisturizing properties help keep hair hydrated, preventing dryness and damage from environmental factors and chemical products.
  • Dandruff Reduction: The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of suela infusion help combat dandruff and other scalp conditions, creating a healthy environment for hair growth.
  • Damage Protection: This infusion forms a protective barrier, shielding hair from sun exposure, heat styling tools, and environmental pollutants.

Sole and Cinnamon vs. B-Control: What’s the Difference?

Both lines contain the powerful suela ingredient, but they cater to different needs:

  • Sole and Cinnamon Line: Our traditional line, formulated with Sole Extract and Cinnamon Extract—both ingredients well-known by our grandparents and parents for promoting hair growth. Since this formula has been around for over 30 years, its shampoo contains sodium sulfate and a minimal amount of salt. However, the rest of the line is free of sulfates, salt, and solid petroleum jelly.

  • Capilo Pro B-Control Line: Launched in 2012, this line was developed to meet the growing demand for cleaner, more modern formulations. It also contains Sole and Cinnamon Extract, but additionally includes Biotin, Soy Protein, Amino Acids, Ginseng Root Extract, and other natural ingredients to help strengthen hair and prevent hair loss. This line is free of sodium sulfate, mineral oil, salt, and solid petroleum jelly.
